Bluth’s work brings together the traditional craft of the Jewish scribe with the eye of a contemporary artist. Each Ketubah is individually scribed by hand with a feather quill and kosher ink, using the traditional Hebrew scribal lettering of sofrut — the sacred craft used to write Torah scrolls and other Jewish ritual texts.
 
Bluth trained as a soferet — a Jewish ritual scribe — in Jerusalem more than a decade ago, studying with one of the few Orthodox rabbis teaching women this ancient craft. Her contemporary Ketubah work grows directly from that traditional training: every letter is formed individually by hand, turning the marriage text itself into an original work of Jewish ritual art.

Hand-Scribed on Klaf — C$2,800
Bluth’s classic hand-scribed Ketubah is created on klaf (parchment), with the marriage text individually written by hand using feather quill and kosher ink. The piece can be entirely text-focused or include a very minimal hand-painted botanical detail, such as lilies. Klaf naturally varies in shape and size, and larger pieces can create a particularly striking statement piece for your home.
 
Hand-Scribed + Custom Art — C$3,500
For couples who want the singularity of hand-scribed text together with more extensive custom artwork, the Ketubah is created on museum-grade fine art paper. The artwork can be developed around your story and aesthetic and may include illustration, botanical or floral artwork, pressed flowers, mixed media, or another custom direction. Because these pieces are individually designed, please speak with Bluth about the art possibilities for your commission.
 
Once you place your order, you’ll receive a form with more information about the available text options and space to provide the details needed to personalize your Ketubah. Bluth is available throughout the process to offer guidance and help you choose the text that’s best for you. You’ll receive a proof to review and approve before the Ketubah is scribed.
 
Choose the text of your choice: traditional Orthodox, Conservative or egalitarian options, interfaith, queer, custom texts, and more. Texts can be in Hebrew, English, or both. You can also provide a custom text of your own or one supplied by your officiant. Explore available Ketubah texts here.
 
We recommend commissioning a hand-scribed Ketubah as early as possible. 3–12 months before your wedding is ideal, though shorter timelines may sometimes be possible depending on Bluth’s scribing schedule.
